On 22 April was held the first stone ceremony of the new Prévessin Computing Center (PCC).
Following years of preparation, the construction has started on January 2022 and the first phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of summer 2023. The project execution and works are monitored by our colleagues of PPM group, and more especially by Natacha Lopez, Pieter Mattelaer and Philippe Magnano. The first phase of execution for the full infrastructure, services and equipment on the top floor includes the testing and commissioning to deliver an IT power capacity of 4 MW. A progressive increase to 8 MW and 12 MW is foreseen in later phases.
The construction of this new Computer Center aims to provide sufficient capacity for the processing of data generated by CERN experiments, the IT department as well as the ongoing HL-LHC upgrades.
The PCC project is designed to be energy efficient with a target Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) of 1.10, the heat recovery system aims to recover up to 25% of its energy produced to be redistributed into the district heating system in Prévessin.
